How to Place a Referral for Assistance

One of the most common questions we receive is who can qualify for assistance and how do they get referred. Here I will try to break down our assistance offerings, but any patients and healthcare providers with questions should feel free to reach out to me at any time with any questions kristina@rdrmn.org

None of our assistance is income based, but it is diagnosis dependent, meaning documentation from a medical professional will be required. At this time, the board of directors has decided to assist every patient that qualifies and not turn anyone away, this means that our assistance packages to patients are small, but no one is ever turned away. As a volunteer-led organization we strive to be prompt in responding to all applications, phone calls, and emails. As of January 1st 2020, patients should expect 3-4 weeks before hearing from one of our intake volunteers.

General Financial Assistance

Medical care is expensive and can add up quickly. If you are a Rochester, MN resident or are here receiving treatment, you may quality for general financial assistance. This assistance may be used towards medical bills, home improvements, or whatever your current needs may be. Annual award per patient is $500-$750.

Patients may self-refer or have a caregiver/healthcare provider place a referral on their behalf. All referrals are confirmed with your healthcare team; in order to prevent any delays with this process, please sign an authorization with Mayo Clinic for information to be exchanged with Red Drop Resources. Contact your healthcare team with questions on how to complete this authorization.

You can visit our website here and scroll to the bottom of the page to apply for financial assistance. Please note that is is generally 4-6 weeks for processing of this request but the wait can be longer depending on volunteer availability and funding available.

Lodging Opportunities

Red Drop Resources has several properties Rochester where patients and their families are able to stay for no charge, for up to 75 nights. These properties are fully furnished and are stocked with paper products and some non-perishable food items. During their stay, families are responsible for providing any additional items they may need including food and are responsible for cleaning, laundry, and general upkeep during their stay. A $250 security deposit is required at check-in. In order to be placed on the waitlist, a social worker or healthcare provider must have a referral directly to Kristina Wright-Peterson by emailing the patient’s name, date of birth, diagnosis, and expected dates of stay to kristina@rdrmn.org

These properties are intended for patients and their families experiencing financial hardship or difficulties in finding lodging which fits their family’s needs.

The next predicted opening for one of our properties is February 7th 2020.

Healthcare providers (nurses, social workers, NP/PAs, and MD/DOs) may place a referral for lodging here.
