Happy Birthday Dad!

February 23rd is my dad’s birthday. Growing up, I always knew this meant one thing: banana cream pie. I don’t know where his love of banana cream pie originated from, I’m sure someone must know, but all I know is that is was true love. We would generally have dinner and then mom, or a friend, would have driven over to Baker’s Square by Apache Mall (Rochesterites know exactly what I am talking about!) and we would close the birthday celebration with pie. I can still remember my father sitting at the table, enjoying his pie with a small grin on his face and savoring the moment.

Today, my mom has carried on the tradition of pie, however with the closure of most pie shops in town, it has been harder and harder to find any pie, much less banana cream. But each year you will find us, usually with my kids in tow, driving around town in hunt of somewhere to celebrate. So in his memory, I invite you to find a little something today that will put a grin on your face. Happy Birthday Dad!
