Meet Our Team: Peter Moen

Take a few minutes and meet one of our newest board members, Peter Moen. He brings some personal experience with blood cancer to the Red Drop Resource Board of Directors!

What is your day job?

Pastor at Concord Church of Christ

When did you join the board?

August of 2020

Why did you join the board?

I am a survivor of a subset of Diffuse Large B-cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I know the heavy toll that a blood cancer diagnosis incurs not just on the patient, but on their loved ones as well. I believe my perspective is helpful in the conversations and decisions made for Red Drop Resources. I am honored to have been considered for such a role.

If you could say one thing to patients battling blood cancers in Rochester, what would it be?

There is a network of people from doctors to nurses to support staff to volunteers in the community that are here to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

What are your favorite free-time activities?

I enjoy reading, gardening, fishing, golfing, playing with my kids.

What is your favorite quote?

What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.

-Augustine

Anything else you would like to share?

In the midst of my disease the little acts of kindness people performed for me and my family were immeasurably helpful. At times we needed to be the ones to ask for those little acts of kindness because we were the only ones that knew what they were. Self-advocacy is not about getting what you want, it is about getting what you need. Do not be afraid to advocate for yourself.
